Audiobooks!
Posted by Molly Bowen on October 21, 2022 at 6:20 pmSomeone mentioned audiobooks in the Walking group, so I thought it’d be fun to start a thread of current faves. What have you listened to recently that you’d recommend?

I listen to audiobooks every single day! Its spooky season so I’m listening to the Green Mile, I’m not the biggest fan of Steve King’s writing style but I like his stories. I recently finished The Great Alone, The Woman in the Library, The Vanishing Half, & The Woman in Cabin 10. I like thrillers, suspense, mystery, fantasy… pretty much any genre actually.
-
I recently listened to The Woman in the Library! What did you think? It’s been awhile, but I also listened to the Vanishing Half and I don’t remember loving it. I can’t recall why exactly though, just not my cup of tea maybe. Have you read any Lucy Foley? Highly recommend in your genre!

I liked it! I thought it was like book inception, it was pretty neat how it was written! It was predictable in my opinion but I enjoyed it. The Vanishing Half wasn’t very exciting, but I thought it was an interesting story. I’m now listening to His & Hers per recommendation in this thread and am loving it! I’m about 30% in, I have a guess about the end but I feel like this is a good one so hopefully I’m wrong. I hate when I guess the end I’m too good at it hahaha

I haven’t read any Lucy Foley yet but I have the Guest List on my shelf waiting to be read!!

I am starting The Guest List by Lucy Foley today! First Lucy Foley book- I’ve been recommended this one a few times so I’m looking forward to it. Thanks for the recommendation!

You might like The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix. It’s an odd one for sure and had mixed reviews from my book club. There are a couple gory parts!
-
Oooh I’m reading A Discovery of Witches series right now so this sounds up my alley! Adding it to my TBR list!

I love audiobooks! I don’t listen to them when I’m walking for safety reasons but I love listening to them while I cook and do chores or while driving. My all-time favorite is His and Hers by Alice Feeney. It’s a thriller/murder mystery and the voice of the killer is SO creepy! Plus, it keeps you guessing until the last 2 minutes of the book!

Oooh sounds right up my alley, I’m adding this to my tbr list!

My hold ended early and I got my book the day I finished my last one! Woohoo!! Loving it so far!!! I hated it at very beginning because it was the serial killer who first spoke and the voice was hard to understand through my car speaker but I cranked the volume and now I’m good and thoroughly hooked!
-
I just finished His and Hers! It was so good. I thought I had it figured out too, but was so wrong. Can’t wait to hear what you think!

But i also had like 15 theories so the odds were good one of them was right 🤣Kept me changing my mind the entire time!

Skyward by Brandon Sanderson is what I’m currently reading. A little sci-fi, a little fantasy, and classic Sanderson twists and mysteries (I love all of his series).
-
I’ve never heard of this author, but I’m always down to try a new one on for size. Thanks for the recommendation!
-
We’re big fans of Sanderson and the Skyward series in this house too.
-
Another vote for Sanderson! I especially love the Skyward series!

A series I love is the Share books by Nathan Lowell (Quarter Share, Half Share, Full Share, Double Share, Captain’s Share, Owner’s Share).
-
Also worth mentioning is that I use the Libby app connected with my local library card. There’s a lot of audiobooks (and ebooks too) that I can get through the app for free since I’m just checking them out of my library!

I love the “Keeper of the Lost Cities” series by Shannon Messenger. It’s my favorite. I also recommend “Bomb” by Steve Sheinkin for my non fiction lovers. It tells a lot of the background spy stories that went into the developing of the atomic bomb. It’s so so interesting. I also really liked “Ready, Player One” by Ernest Cline.
-
“Bomb” would probably be good to read now if you plan on watching Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” next year.
