Through the years VRC’s events have had a variety of fun themes like Yellowstone, Acadia, Great Smoky Mountains National Parks, Sesame Street, My Little Pony, Transformers, Gumby, and Smokey Bear, dinosaurs, outer space, and more!

Netflix marathon…
That would help make my decision of what to watch while running on the treadmill ?
The Goonies. Each milestone is a pin of the booby trap you narrowly escaped.

What about a decades theme? Like 80’s or 90’s? I was thinking 10 pins, so it would be more than the Sesame Street one I’m doing, but you could get a pin for every 50 miles and it would be a 500 mile goal? Or every 100 for a 1000 miler. 90’s could have flannel shirt, JNCO jeans, Blockbuster card…
I was thinking 80s too! Hair bands, cassette tapes, MTV, neon anything, boom box, blue eyeshadow… ?

Wasn’t there talk about a 90s race? I remember there being a FB post voting on the name of it, what happened to that?
I love anything associated with animals or national parks. There could be a photo safari race with African animal pins, or a race the length of the Denali park road with pins of the Alaska big 5 and the medal could be the mountain. There could be a race to the international space station (~250 miles) with clouds, jets, meteors, etc., as pins. I love the decade-themed idea as well.
I second this! The ISS theme sounds cool (I love space stuff) and I love national park themes too

Christmas Vacation!
Ah, interesting. You don’t just mean Christmas vacation, but “Christmas Vacation”. Is that right? That could be a good one. I wonder how many people have a tradition to watch that each year?
What about a Christmas Story event with a bb gun medal? ?
Yes! I’m a huge fan of the Christmas Vacation movie. I throw a Christmas Vacation themed watch party every year. And I watch it whenever it is on TV.
A Christmas Story would be great too! A nice leg lamp medal!

Don’t forget Winter Solstice, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa when thinking about holiday-based themes…not everyone celebrates Christmas….just thinking aloud!!
We have done “Ugly Sweater” and “Festivus” events in the past. Those were pretty fun.
Would a Harry Potter theme be possible? Because I would do that in a heartbeat!
That’s a tricky one for licensing. We’ll check into it again.
I wouldn’t risk Harry Potter, I was in a non profit hp fans run club and WB took them to court and made them shut down. But what about just wizards and witches in general? I am wearing my witch hat as I type this hahaha it is October after all!
Haha how far could we push the wizards and witches theme without bringing on the eyes of lawyers? Like have a castle that ISN’T hogwarts, a snowy owl that ISN’T hedwig, magic wands, a Raven with withva blue background, a lion with a red background, etc.
Honestly as long as you don’t use the names and stuff I don’t think they could do anything about it…
What about Lord of the Rings? Like, travel from the Shire to Mount Doom?
I thought of another one (and this might be a little nerdy, but here it is…) What about a Pokémon theme? Maybe earn “gym badges” for specific distances? Or help your pokemon “evolve”? I would totally do it. ?
Yes yes yes!!! I’ll be honest… Pokémon Go has definitely encouraged me to walk and run more ? #nerd
I love Pokémon Go, but I haven’t used it for a while. I’m more into the actual games. I’ve played all of them ?
Gotta catch ‘‘em all! Run distances to catch then and your pins are your caught Pokémon and the medal is a pokeball! I never got into Pokémon but I see the potential here! ?
I would love to do a two part series of the 7 ancient and modern wonders of the world!
I also would be a neat idea to do walk from “one side of the country to the other”, do it as a series where you walk the total distance.

I like this idea. Have pins showcasing national parks or cool landmarks that you “see” along the way
Another idea would be a race that you walk the entire legal of different trails; like the AT, Pacific Crest Trail, John Muir Trail, some of the more well know and famous ones.
