What do you eat/drink before you run?
Posted by Ryan Jenkins on October 21, 2022 at 5:16 pmI personally like to run on a fairly empty stomach but maybe that’s not a good idea? What do you do?

Im with you, I prefer to run in the morning before breakfast. Running with food in my belly makes me feel sick.
I prefer running on an empty stomach, too. I saw a video recently though that suggested rice with some salt about 30 minutes before a workout. Maybe adding some fat if it was going to be a longer workout. The point of the video was to keep it simple.
Does it matter if you have protein before or after? I wonder if it makes a difference, maybe a different effect?
I prefer an empty stomach for a run, just a few gulps of water. If I’m running longer than an hour and a half, I’ll have a piece of toast like a half hour before starting.
I usually have a banana because I get bad toe cramps if I don’t. I love bananas, though! Otherwise I don’t eat anything else.
Bananas are one of the few foods that I can eat then run after eating. Usually the food sloshing around makes me feel nauseous though, I rarely eat before I run.
I typically like to go out on an empty stomach as well (other than water)
I’m sure once I get into longer distances beyond 5k for running I might start trying new things.I just started running at age 45 and had no idea what to do, not to do, or what was good for my body. I discovered pretty quickly that I have to have an empty stomach. I tried once about an hour after eating and got cramps so bad that I had to stop after about 30 seconds!
