Running Shoes (2022)
Posted by Ryan on September 16, 2022 at 12:32 pmWhat are the best running shoes for different types of running (and different types of runners) in 2022?

I’ve been using Brooks. So, anecdotally, they’re great for those who don’t consider themselves runners. ?
What is it about those of us who don’t consider ourselves runners? I’ve been running for more than 12 years. I ran a marathon 9 years ago. But I still tell people “I’m not an actual runner”. ??♀️ Wonder what makes an actual runner? I also love Brooks. ?
It’s kind of baffling isn’t it? Having worked for Vacation Races and Virtual Running Club for years, this is such a common theme. Someone might run 4 half marathons a year and they’ve completed races in 48 different states but they still don’t consider themself a runner?
I think it comes from standard human impostor syndrome. We don’t feel qualified to call ourselves runners until enough other people confirm that we are, indeed, runners.
After a visit with a foot and ankle specialist, and finding out I have plantar fasciitis, it was recommended to switch from my go-to Brooks to HOKAs. I got one pair to try, as daily shoes, and a pair of their recovery slides. It’s slow, but my foot is improving. Their recovery slides, which I wear in the house, are like walking on clouds.
My wife love Hokas for the same reasons.
I am partial to Altras purely for the toebox. Any other shoe I put on feels SO constricting on the sides.
I’ve only ever run in Brooks, I did the foot interview at a running store and it’s what they recommended most for the way I run. I couldn’t tell you any details about the way I run, I just believed them and have been happy.
I always tell people to go to a running store and get fitted or try in several pairs. I use Brooka Ghost for road running and Hoka Speedgoats for the trails
My shoes for the last few years have been Saucony.
I KNOW @melbrender has opinions on shoes. ?
I’m loving all these Brooks comments – they are my personal favorite brand, in terms product quality, ethics, inclusiveness, and giving back to the sport. ? I strongly believe runners and walkers of all types should get fitted at their local run specialty store. The employees’ expertise, plus the ability to try on different fits and brands right on the spot, is practically unmatched.
We are headed to one this weekend to get my fiancé fitted so he will hopefully finally start running with me… and who knows I might accidentally try on a couple pair of new shoes ?
